You Can't Make Money If Your Sites Are Down. But How Will You Know?
Your Computer Does the Grunt Work While Your Valuable Time is Spent Generating Income!

Dear Friend,
Like you, I've got a bunch of web sites, spread over a number of servers, and hosted with multiple hosting companies. And I count on them for a good portion of my income. One day, not too long ago, I logged into my Adsense account to check my statistics. What I saw made my jaw drop! Something was obviously very wrong. My earnings were down tremendously. Of course my Adsense income fluctuates daily, but not to this extent. Further investigation showed the number of impressions were down significantly as well. There was only one conclusion - some of my sites were down.
So off I went off to investigate. Going to every one of my sites, from server to server, host to host, checking to make sure they were up and running. As I found the problem sites, I manually added them to a list.
As it turns out, one of my hosting providers had upgraded some software on one of their servers, which resulted in dozens of my sites becoming unavailable. And they had been in that state for a number of hours!
OK, I'll admit it. Before that point, I really didn't monitor the availability of my web sites with any regularity. Let's face it. It's a boring and time consuming task to check dozens or hundreds of sites. Sure, I know I should have. But because my hosting companies were usually reliable, I got complacent and just assumed everything was working normally.
Well, you know what happens when you assume!
My lackadaisical attitude cost me a good chunk of money that day, and I vowed it would never happen again, so I set out to write a program that would do the checking for me. After all, this is the kind of thing computers are good at - performing boring chores on a regular schedule.
...And so Site Scope was born.
Every Web Site Will Eventually Suffer Downtime
You may have had experiences similar to mine. If not, you will. After all, computers are machines, and every machine eventually breaks down, no matter how well you maintain them. Add to that the 'human factor', and the chance of something going wrong increases. A small mistake or oversight on the part of your hosting company staff could have devastating results on your pocketbook.
That's why hosting companies don't guarantee 100% up-time
But the more sites you have, the harder it is to keep track of them, and the more time it takes to make sure they're up and operating and bringing in the dough. Sure, you can use browser bookmarks or create your own directory page, but how convenient is that? You still have to manually visit every site.
